Punk'do

My pops in law is one groovy grandad. Really. (ALL my friends think so too!)

The hubs as well as other family members used to tell me that he used to be square (read : geek). Sorry pops, but this is what 'they' told me. (Sorry 'they'. Awww, c'mon you know who you are!)

Perhaps he's making up for lost time. He'd make sure that every now and then, the colour of his hair is being maintained and not washed out. Weekends you'd find him in his Beckham styled polo-t and hair styled like a true blue gentleman. Many a times, he'd advise my mother in law on how she should style her hair and what is the hair colour of the moment etc. If only the hubs has at least 10 per cent of his daddy's dress sense and style. NOW, that would save his us some unneccessary arguments mostly about not dressing appropriately for the occasion.

As most Sundays after church, there we were at my in laws when Babydolls was abit cranky and needed to recharge (read : afternoon nap). In the process of tucking her, I fell asleep too!
When we awoke later in the evening, a familiar voice called from down below when we were in the hall. Looking out from the the bay windows in the living room, it was my little rascal E in his skate scooter with a new punk hairdo!! The hubs, who came to join me seconds later started laughing so hard that he was almost in tears and little rascal was...grinning from ear to ear! He looked really cute and all the more mischievious, i must say.

The idea behind my son's new do is none other than fashionista man....the popster in law. He had actually requested for the hairdresser to give his favourite grandson the latest and most triendiest do. (For a moment, he had forgotten that E schools in a conservative Catholic kindergarten).

It will take a few more days before the man and me get used to E's (Angelina Jolie's Maddox's lookalike) punk do. As for now, I'm gonna sip extra hot chocolate with extra foam on top before calling it a nite!

PS. To my dearest father in law - Noooo, we are not angry with you for the older one's new hairdo. Thanks to Mother and yourself for all that you have done for the us and especially, the kids. Thank you and ma, too, for spending time with the kids and for showering your endless love and concern for us and especially to ma for feeding us with the lovely meals every weekend. We greatly appreciate it and love you both lots.

Whatever for?

We received a telephone call today around midday. Well actually, the call was for the hubs. But since he was behind the wheels, I took the call.

After a long intro from the person on the other line (she claimed that she was from an audit firm), I politely told her that the Mr T she was looking for was driving and that if she could call him back a little later. She realized that she was speaking to the Mrs and continued with the purpose of call. To tell you the truth, she had such an annoying tone that made me slowly lose my patience. (Thank goodness I was in a good mood else I would have just cut her short!)

Anyways, she went on to say that hubs has won over 4k at the recently ended Great Singapore Sale. Since he did not claim the prize, it had all gone to charity. I'm thinking to myself. "Wait a minute. Is this a hoax or what?!" She continued by saying that there were about 90 people who had won and out of which, 87 of them had already collected their $$$ and that my dear Mr T was one of them who hadn't collected the prize money and it had now gone to charity. (She was able to provide further information when I asked her later as I wanted to be sure we were not being taken for a ride).

So here we are like, "What the fish?" Was there really a need to tell us that the "cash that we had supposedly won" has gone to charity? (I mean, no issues with donating to charitable organisations here). Why did anyone not call us to tell us that we've won in the first place. I mean, how are we to know?! We'd rather they had not call us and disturb our noon. I mean....really, whatever for??

Mini me!

Chloe's grandmother, otherwise also known as my dear dearer dearest mommy, was really really speechless when she saw the picture of her youngest grandchild.

Without her glasses on, "Are you sure this is not your sister?" she asked Anna, my sister before she started laughing and at the same time couldn't believe how her grand-daughter resembled her oldest one so very much.

It seems that we have a picture somewhere in the family album of me somewhat in a similar pose (and by the way, did anyone check out the footwear on my gal's feet?) According to good ole' mom, I used to prance around the house in everyone else's footwear...those with heels were what i'd head for first!

Its really funny how our kids take after us. I mean don't you find it familiar when old friends of mom and dad or even relatives whenever they comment, that once upon a time, we used to be exactly how our kids are now...either by looks or behaviour.

And speaking of behaviour, these days, my better half and me have learnt to reason with the kids more. Though we both feel the same with the saying that goes like this, "Spare the rod and spoil the kids". This doesn't really apply with the kids of this generation. They are the modern lot, the lot that are seen AND must be heard. Sometimes also referred to as the Kids of the (let's not mention names but we all know of a certain famous music channel rite?) - - - Generation.

Having said that, we still have a long way to learn about parenthood but with help from the Almighty One above, we try our best daily.

p/s Chloe has now 'graduated' to balancing herself on my stilettos and these days, she insists on choosing her own outfits prior to any outings! What can I say? So Vain! So ME!!

The Agony of Losing.....50 (sweat-soaked) bucks

A really bad headache greeted me the moment I first opened my eyes Monday morning. "What a way to start the week!" I grumbled to myself as I slowly sat up and pushed myself out of my wonderful bed. (Of course I was all the more sore when I realized the hubs was still deep in slumberland).

The kids too, were especially grouchy and the younger one was even throwing a tantrum which almost made me snap! The hubs got awoken and picture this ....it was a scene of one sleep-deprived adult (hubs), pain in the head and boiling-mad adult (me), two grouchy kids with the little one whining away (coz she realized that mommy has to go to work). After a little bit of reasoning with the kids and getting everyone to calm down, the hubs (what would I have done without him?) went back to bed -
lucky you, darling!

Somehow, my morning didn't get better. In fact, as the day wore on, one bad thing after another seemed to be happening to me. Please find the LIST as follows :

  • Bus no. 106 took forever to come! And when it did, boy oh boy, was the ride FOREVER!!
  • Even though I was running late, I told myself that one cup of extra hot chocolate was gonna do the trick and I'd be back on track again. But you wouldn't believe this. The baristar at Coffee Beans made me a cuppa Today's Brew when I ordered extra skinny hot chocolate!
  • When I finally got to the office, there were this pile of work sitting on my desk that were marked Urgent and needed attention within the next hour.
But the one incident that beat it all was during lunchtime. (Btw, I am by nature a very careless person. Just the weekend before, whilst out shopping with the family, I left my wallet on the departmental store shelf whilst picking out clothes for the kids. Hubs noticed it and gave me a mini lecture about how careless I was.....yadah yadah yadah).

Whilst walking towards the food court, a colleague returned me money for something that I had helped her purchase by passing me a fifty dollar note. Thinking that we were just a few steps away from the food court, I just left the money in my bag and zipped it up instead of putting it nicely into my wallet. After ordering fruits, I opened my bag, hoping to conveniently fish out the fifty dollar note but lo and behold, the note was nowhere to be seen! I literally stood in front of the stall digging every darn corner of my bag only to my dismay! Though there was a queue that was slowing forming, I had no time to be embarass.

I was soooo disappointed and the pain in my heart, or rather, the hole in my pocket was just too much to bear! I immediately thought of all I could have done with the fifty dollars. There was just too many things! The more I thought about it, the more painful it felt. I retraced my steps once, twice, three times but to no avail. I was really at a loss for words the whole afternoon that I really didn't know whether to laugh or cry. I was dead sure that the note went into my bag but for some strange reason, it just was not there! Some colleagues who knew about it were so insensitive. "Why so careless?" they just had to rub it on! Others who were more concerned went on to say, "Money can be earned anytime. Don' t worry about it too much. Your health is more important." (How true....but...but.......)
Some friends felt sorry for me and wanted to buy me drinks that evening to sorta cheer me up. They even mentioned that I should keep it to myself and not to mention anything to hubs....just in case.........
I too, actually wondered what the better half would say. At this point, I certainly do not need a
"I told you so......"

Was taking my shower when hubster came home that evening. The moment I stepped out of the shower and saw him, I couldn't control myself and blurted out, " Babes, I dropped fifty dollars today!" expecting him to give me lessons on carelessness, he was really calm and cool about it and walked over to hug me. At that moment, the hug from him meant more than anything. I really needed that hug...especially having gone through so much that dreaded day!

I learnt something that evening. I imagined that if the whole incident was vice versa, I would have lost my cool and gave him my two cents bit on lessons about being careless. Thank you babes for being so understanding and especially PATIENT with me all this time.

Till today, three days after the incident, I still feel the damn pain in my pocket. Thought I'd punish myself by forgoing facial and pedicure for a month. No, make that two!! Ouch... :(
