Unsettled

It's now official. The news is finally out. The department I've been working in for the last 13 years have been absorbed by another. Everyone was unsettled today and did not have the mood to do bloody work. Everywhere in the office, small groups of people can be seen discussing compensation packages, what's in store for the future, how things will impact us all etc.

I LOVE where I am at. Most of us have been in the same outfit for at least a decade! We've become so close to one another that we're almost like family. Everyone in the office know each other's spouses and children (if any). We can interpret the likes and dislikes of each other, be it the food we consume or fashion sense. Yes, we really are thatclose. We fight and scream at each other in the office, but in the same day, make up and buy each other coffee during tea-time. We've really grown so comfortable with each other and it really is so so painful plus terribly sad to see some of my close colleagues move to a different location in less than 2 months time!

Sure, management has indicated that as far as possible, no heads will roll and that everyone will still be holding a postition at the end of the day BUT ....its easier said than done, as we all feel. Down the line ...who knows...should there be duplication of work, will there not be streamlining which will result in the chopping of a position?

In all honesty, I did not see this coming at all. I really don't think Work is EVER gonna be the same again, at least not without my good friends.

Damn...can someone get me a glass of Bailey's, less ice please?

D Day!

Am so bloody tired. Been tossing and turning in bed for the longest time tonight. Lots happened today. Just too tired to give details. But for now, all I know is that in 10 hours time, there'll be one helluva' HUGE office meeting with the official merger annoucement. Yep, the BIG BOYS are in town to deliver the news.

Stuff

Alot of things have been happening lately. Been feeling really under the weather. And speaking about the weather, the rainy season aint helping one bit either. The March holidays just ended and my poor kids spent their short-school break sick in bed. Down with a mighty damn bad bug, both the kiddos have lost tremendous amounts of weight over the last 14 days. And speaking of weight now, my wallet's been really light too. After spending a hefty sum of 800 bucks on repeated visits to the doctor and on medications!

Been missing hubs a great deal. The last one month and a half saw him travelling to 6 different countries almost weekly! Just when the kids and me got used to having him around, he's got to pack up and head to the airport for another biz trip. The little excitement I find in being his personal assistant by helping him with his internet check-in I now so dread because that means I can see the line-up of trips in store and that alone gets me depressed. I shall look on the bright side and not complain as afterall, he's got to bring food to the table.

Back in the office front, everyone's been feeling anxious and edgy. Word's been going round that the department's in for another merger of somesort. From the rumours that's been going round, things do not look at all rosy. I don't know if I should prepare myself at all times since I am working in the financial industry afterall. And like all financial institutions, mergers and aquisitions are part and parcel in the industry. I've been through two mergers in my 13 years with the company so far. And both times, jobscope but not my profile was affected but in a really small way. It seems like we are getting the bad share of the bargain this time. I can just feel it. Like many of my colleagues in the office, we've been all under mental distress the last couple of days. Don't know what is to come or what to expect until this coming Tuesday, when the big guns fly into town for the official announcement. Sigh. Until then, keeping my fingers crossed.
