Mari Memasak! (Come Let's Cook)

It has occurred to me (pointlessly and countless number of times) that cooking shows these days are chok-a-block of lads, sex and chic lifestyles. While I enjoy them very much, I feel nostalgic about the good old cooking programmes with the auntie or mak cik solemnly stirring and frying behind a counter in the then "Suria" channel pseudo cooking studio. So here I am on my own, having a delicious American brekkie at good old Coffee Bean's before work and decided to present for my own entertainment, the script for "Mari Memasak Ikan Asam Pedas ISTIMEWA!"

Picture solemn (actually there are some who talk way too much!) mak cik doing her intro....(sorry it's in very very bad Malay. I have maligned the mak cik! Ya ya, I speak Malay with my family members but its how the Peranakans do...with a huge splattering of English! And besides, I took Mandarin for my second language you see, so I should be executed...erm, sorry excused rather!)

Here goes nothing!

*Hari ini kita memasak Ikan Asam Pedas. Tetapi puan puan dan tuan tuan, asam pedas ini bukan biasa punya asam pedas. Asam pedas ini mak cik punya special recipe, recipe ISTIMEWA! Kenapa? Mak cik ada tambar special ingredient....itu lah TONGKAT ALI! Yer lah...nanti pak cik balik makan, kita boleh hot sekali!...*insert a slight cha chan mambo move here! or rather a dangdut bum shake!*

I had a such a nice time chortling over it over my cranberry salad and runny scrambled eggs (the best!) I just had to put it down. For my son's godma Liza and for my mother, at least! She LOVES watching the Malay cookery programmes (I shall blog about it abit another time) even though she's the best cook I know and has all ...I mean ALL the recipes at her fingertips!

Translation of bad Malay below...

(Today we are cooking fish in sour and spicy gravy. But this dish is not the normal and usual Asam Pedas. This Asam Pedas is auntie's own special recipe, the ISTIMEWA recipe! Why is that? Auntie has a special ingredient...tongkat ali. Yes, later when uncle gets home to eat it, we can get hot indeed!)

This post is entirely just for laughs. I get into nonsensical moods like this when I am feeling stressed at work...but more so when its a Friday! Its not meant to be racist or offend anyone.

Little Chef Scott

A couple of weekends ago, when I totally lost my voice and was zombified from the amount of medication I took, my oldest one made himself in charge of preparing lunch. There was adult supervision of course given the fact that he's only 8!

He really took charge and was very serious about preparing a delish lunch of Sheperd's Pie! He saved a portion of the pie in the fridge so that I could have it a few days later. Ain't he sweet?

I am not being biased here but you gotta believe me when I say it was yummos to the max!

My baby graduates from kindie!

This is Chloe Isabelle, my dearest daughter at six months. I can remember very clearly when and what happened after this picture was taken. It was taken on a Friday night after hubs had washed her up and I had changed her. Hubs and me made a great tag team, either he would bathe one of our kids and I would change them and vice versa. Anyway, she was in such a smiley mood that evening that I actually have a series of pictures we took of her. So so precious and looking back, I'm glad and lucky too, I had the camera ready!

Oh was it not just like yesterday when she was a little baby? Today at 5.50am when I opened my eyes, it all seemed so surreal. There I lay in bed thanking God for the day (of coz with the Bazooka Bass sounding snores of the hubs in the background! LOL! Sorry couldn't help it! Love you hon!) and for blessing us with our awesome kiddos!

In a blink of an eye, six years have flown by and our youngest graduated from kindergarten today. Another milestone for Chloe Isabelle.

Got all teary eyed and emotional today (and choked, too!) when we gave the loudest cheers when her name was called for her to get on stage to receive her Graduation Certificate!

A girl and her shoes (part II)

Remember my post almost a year ago?

The one about my sweet god-daughter, Sara Giselle's love for shoes? Well, over the year, she grew to have many passions like her love for playing the violin, writing and (GOD forbid!) Hello Kitty stuff toys and merchandise.

Recently, there's one thing we discovered. Her love and passion for shoes still ranks No. 1!!

Whilst shopping for both her older sisters' birthday cupcake decorations, she couldn't take her eyes off something in the far corner!

"There it is! I love this pair of high heeled shoes!" she exclaimed.

"Mummy, can you get these for me? See, I am able to balance myself and I promise you I won't fall!"

Hello Gigi!

Will the REAL Hello Kitty please stand up?!
